SACRED AND PROFANE / DRAWING TO A CONCLUSION : In late 1997 twin exhibitions of works by Tom Phillips were mounted in galleries south of the Thames. The first, "Sacred and Profane", ran at the South London Gallery from 22 October through 23 November. The second, "Drawing to a Conclusion", ran at the Dulwich Picture Gallery from 5 November through 18 January in the new year. Both exhibitions were curated by Massimo Valsecchi. The exhibitions featured new works in widely assorted media. Present were the familiar oils, pastels, and collage, as well as unfamiliar media such as wire, glass, orange peels, mud (from several locales and continents), and prostitutes' cards from phone boxes. A single catalogue was published to accompany both exhibitions. The following is an electronic version of the catalogue. > > |
