Another look at Feuermusick (der Ring), with a first look at its partners Erde and Loge. The artist writes:

When preparing for the exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Fort Worth I took another look at the drawings based on the music that characterises the figures of Erde and Loge from the Ring of the Niebelungen. Wagner's music has long provided subjects for my work as with Brünnhilde and the Rhine Maidens, the latter now in the collection of Salman Rushdie. The earlier drawings of Erde and Loge had already been reworked from their original state but still needed attention. Loge only needed small adjustments to make it relate more closely to the drawing depicting his nature as a firemaker (hence Feuermusik) but Erde underwent, in the Spring of 2001, radical changes.
A full page for Erde and Loge is forthcoming.

The last piece as you exit the gallery is the new work Concerto Grosso.

The Concerto Grosso is central to Baroque music in which the whole orchestra is virtuosic like an organ. Handel is the master but this drawing came out of a more recent example. A Schnittke festival at the Barbican Centre in London featured his own perspective on the classical form and it was the memory of his surprise bending and reshaping of it that served as the impetus for this drawing. In a sense it transcribes the music that I was seeing in my mind as well as hearing with my ears.
And with that, we end our visit to Tom Phillips: Drawing on Music at the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum's annex, The Modern at Sundance Square. But before our coda, allow us to sing one last refrain.
