With this issue we return to A HUMUMENT, in anticipation of a new edition, to be published this autumn by Thames & Hudson.

These new Web pages provide improved access to the complete images from the first printed edition. The digital images were captured from copy number five from the original edition of 100, printed by the Tetrad Press.

This copy is owned by the United States Library of Congress, and was scanned with the permission and best wishes of Gerald Wager, Head of the Rare Book Reading Room, who passed away unexpectedly this spring.

Jerry was an admirer of Tom's work, and would have been especially fond of this rather large offering (3044 Kb), a single Web document comprising all page images from the entire book.

Also this month we take a look back at the features we presented to accompany Tom's National Portrait Gallery exhibition, We Are the People.

I had the pleasure of viewing the exhibition while visiting the London NPG in March. It remains one of my most cherished museum experiences: the works themselves provoked a depth of emotional response I've not seen anywhere else.

It was beautiful. People seemed to be looking at themselves and their ancestors. The dialogue within those spaces between works and viewers, both spoken and silent, will be one of my own benchmarks for years to come.

Very cordially yours,
JOHN NICK PULL <editor, tomphillips.co.uk>
